The Improv Academy
The Improv Academy is a character-based improv training program created by Carolyn Bridget Kennedy, with in-person courses offered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Carolyn Bridget Kennedy
For over six years, Carolyn has been performing in improv and sketch comedy shows in Los Angeles at The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, and The Second City.
Carolyn completed The Groundlings Advanced Improv and Writing Lab in their Performance Track with an invitation to continue to Advanced Writing Lab. She completed the Upright Citizens Brigade and The Second City Hollywood Conservatory programs. She improvised weekly in the Steinkellner Workshop led by Deanna Oliver and Phyllis Katz (of The Groundlings) and Bill Steinkellner.
Carolyn’s first improv training was at the renowned Loose Moose Theatre Company in Calgary.
Carolyn has been teaching improv since the Summer of 2023 and is the founder of The Improv Academy. She teaches character style short-form improv, with a focus on learning how to create and sustain original and believable characters.

Carolyn is an award-winning actor, writer and producer working in both Canada and Los Angeles. She appears in the 4th season of the award-winning Netflix Original series "The Umbrella Academy" and in the ABC Studios comedy series "How to Die Alone". She was a lead in a multi-cam sitcom pilot filmed in front of a live studio audience.
Carolyn has honed her comedy sketch writing skills at The Groundlings and privately with a former showrunner for MadTV.
Carolyn has studied dramatic acting with Larry Moss in his Master Class; Advanced Acting Technique with Jason Alexander; and at the Beverly Hills Playhouse with Director Howard Deutch in their Advanced Scene Study Class. She has trained in Alexander Technique with Kristof Konrad and Jean-Louis Rodrigue and worked with voice coach Denise Woods. She has also trained with Margie Haber Studios (Master/Advanced Class), Gunnar Rohrbacher at Actors Comedy Studio, and Lesly Kahn.
